Cotswolds Inns

Cotswolds Inns

Cotswolds Inns have a charm of their own as any visitor to the area will already know. The Cotswolds area is one of the UK’s favourite destinations, and is well known and loved for it’s hundreds of little villages, all made from the same honey coloured limestone.

There is something for everyone, whether you want a relaxing experience or something more exciting like a visit to the Cotswolds Water Park for example. Many visitors are happy to find a good Cotswolds Inn to stat at then visit as many of the beautiful villages as they can, and of course buying some of the local treats you find in the area.

During your stay you will need somewhere to stay as well as eat and drink, and I recommend you visit as many of the Inns in the Cotswolds as you can. Many have a varied and long history and you are ensured of a warm welcome.

The Crown of Crucis inn in Cirencester boasts it’s very own ghost for example, which sits at table 5 near the log fire and often moves glasses around. Was he one of the many travellers that used this inn as a stop off point on his way to London, or perhaps a Roman who used to work at the nearby unearthed Roman forge who enjoys a drink in the bar after a hard day?

Of course there are many local Cotswolds delicacies to tempt you with, such as Cerney Ash goats Cheese, Blaisdon red plums, Bilbury trout and Old Spot bacon. Why not wash it down with one of the local Cotswolds brews such as Jouster, or Donnington Ale? And we haven’t even mentioned all of the cream teas on offer. Be careful not to put on too much weight!

Many Cotswolds inns were of course coaching inns originally, and many date back to the 16th Century. Many still hang on to original features such as beams and original flagstones.

One of the Cotswolds Inns that offers all of this and more in a great location for exploring the area is the Crown of Crucis. The following quote says it all “This is the perfect example of a traditional English Country Hotel, in beautiful surroundings which add to the atmosphere of undisturbed tranquillity.” (Travellers Choice) See their website at Cotswolds Country Hotel for their special rates including dinner in the award winning restaurant, bed and breakfast and of course, the beauty and tranquillity of the Cotswolds.
